Roger Cliffton, the CEO of ELVis introduces the Charity organisation and Team

Hello, thank you for taking the time to read the East London Vision (ELVis) blog. My name is Roger Clifton and I'm the CEO of ELVis. I self-confess to not being totally up-to-date with current methods of communication, which is just as well really, since any of the team will vouch for that being the case. Fortunately though I work with a strong group of staff: Masuma, Laura, Christine, Sharon, Hassan and, for the purposes of this Blog, Leah from the Thomas Pocklington Trust, who is an experienced Blogger. They will all be making their own contributions during the next few weeks.

When asked, most people say that the sense they would least like to lose is their sight. ELVis consists of the 7 geographical areas that naturally cover all of east London north of the Thames:

    Barking and Dagenham

    City and Hackney

    Havering

    Newham

    Redbridge

    Tower Hamlets

    Waltham Forest.

There are approximately 10,000 people in our region who are officially registered as blind or partially sighted, with many more who could be registered, but, for various reasons, are not. Most of these people are elderly, but it is important that we, as a registered charity, provide services to people of all ages. Children who do not fulfil their potential in early life often never will, so it is vital that we provide the right support from the start: a genuine cradle to grave service.

Many of you will know of someone who has failing sight and the difficulties they face with, for example, reading, leaving their home, carrying out everyday tasks, finding work, etc. Our aim is to enhance & link vision impaired services and organisations throughout East London, improving the quality of life for blind and partially sighted people and increasing individual independence. During the next few weeks, my colleagues will Blog about examples of services we provide that turn this aim into a reality, both for people who are experiencing sight loss themselves but also for their families, carers and friends, .

But we cannot achieve all that is required alone and we would love you to help us. There are many ways in which you can do this: spreading the word about us, raising funds or volunteering some of your time, to name just a few. If you can do any of these, please call our office on 020 3697 6464 or drop us an Email at enquiries@eastlondonvision.org.uk.

Meanwhile, please keep up-to-date with what we're up to, not only via these Blogs, but via:
